Hugo Decker (born in Lier on 25 October 1996) obtained his Bachelor of Laws from Hasselt University and his Master of Laws from KU Leuven, both cum laude.
He subsequently practised at the Brussels Bar for three years with Vanbelle Law, a leading law firm and a referral firm for the US Embassy in Belgium. There, he learned the practical skills of the profession and built a strong network. After leaving the firm, he founded DECKER LAW.
Alongside his practice, Hugo teaches at Hasselt University and Maastricht University. At Maastricht, he is also pursuing a doctorate on naturalistic natural law, at the intersection of law and philosophy.
A forthcoming book from ACCO Leuven includes a contribution by Hugo alongside those of Professor Adrian Vermeule (Harvard University) and Cornelis Schilts (University of Oxford, VUB), among others.
Since 2025, Hugo has also been an alternate member of the Federal Commission for the Control and Evaluation of Euthanasia. The commission reviews euthanasia cases after the event, on the basis of reports submitted by doctors, to assess whether the legal requirements have been met.
Outside law, Hugo is a passionate gardener. His tomatoes, cucumbers and unusual chilli peppers are well worth tasting.
